We’re husband and wife team, Ian and Colette Pennick and we’re the principals of Wellbusiness. We are in the rare position of never having been in full time employment, and of having rarely attended an interview, so, on these scores we can’t be much help! Instead, since leaving University, we’ve been owners and builders of a number of successful businesses across a range of disciplines.

Business life for us began in the early 1980s in the ‘rag trade’, where we helped build the family retail business into an eight store fashion chain. It was Ian's fascination with the then emerging personal computer and its practical application in the business that was fundamental to the company’s successful growth in the early days. The fashion group quickly became one of Irelands leading fashion groups, and it continued to develop for decades after.

That fascination for computerized business systems quickly became an obsession of Ian’s at which point he left the fashion business to start up an IT company selling stock control and point of sale systems for retailers. Colette soon joined him, leaving her fashion buying career behind, and between them they built one of Ireland’s best known software businesses of the 1990’s. The company became one of the leading solutions providers for retailers across the UK and Ireland, and with offices in Holland, England, Scotland and Dublin, was a Fast 50 Technology UK winner 3 years in succession. After going on to become a Fast 500 Technology European company, the company was acquired by a UK PLC and FTSE 250 retail solution provider in 2000

Some people might have hung their boots up after that, but we were still young and energetic and so we decided to set up a consultancy business and Wellbusiness was born. During the early days of our new partnership, we became involved firstly as consultants then directors and investors in what was to become Northern Irelands leading franchise business. For over 5 years we used our expertise to help build this cafe operation into one of Irelands most sucessful indigenous franchise models. After winning the Best Emerging and Franchise of the Year awards from the Irish Franchise Association, the Company was approached by the well known Foodservice and Retail Group who acquired the business in 2009.

As if this wasn’t enough to keep us busy in the mid 2000s, we also consulted for and invested in a health food supplement manufacturing business. From scratch, we developed a strong strategy for marketing, manufacturing and distributing the product, and now this business is established as one of Irelands leading food supplement brands. Currently stocked in over a thousand stores across the UK and Ireland, this business continues to grow, and has the ability to develop internationally over the coming years.

Our passion for business success never ceases. Today, we continue to be actively involved in a number of exciting business projects that are developing very exciting potential both at home and abroad.

Colette is a director of the Irish Franchising Association, and lends her support and experience to a number of franchise companies.

Ian has served on a number of public bodies, as director and chairman, and acts in non-executive and executive roles for a number of organizations.
